“When you listen to music on a cello you would normally expect to hear soft classical music. However, little did anybody realize less than six years ago what an impact two young men from Croatia would have on the music scene worldwide, taking the cello to a whole new level. Since 2011, cellists Stjepan Hauser and Luka Šulić, better known as 2Cellos, have been a major sensation in the music world. They are best known for playing well-known pop and rock songs on the cello, including hits like “Welcome To The Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses, “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson, and “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. I had the privilege of seeing these two talented gentlemen in concert recently and talk about one heck of a show. Both Hauser and Šulić played with great passion and energy, ranging from head banging to standing up occasionally while playing. They play so hard that their bows lose a handful of hairs after every two or three songs. The lighting setup included lasers and occasional strobe lights and every other song had a unique video playing on the stage screens. The whole thing was absolutely phenomenal. After the show I had the pleasure to meet them both and had them sign my program book and they were even gracious enough to let me take a few photos with them. This duo is definitely worth seeing live without a doubt.”
