09′ Summer Camps Kick Off

The first campsession of 2009 has kicked off with a sold out week and some serious music making on the first day.

Progressive Music Center‘s 15th year of the the Original School of Rock Summer Sessions kicked off Monday, June 15 in a brand new Raleigh, NC location. For 2009 a Music Technology curriculum has been added and titled called MusicTech. Through the new MusicTech format camp Rockers write, record, promote and perform their music in a one week period ending with a finale concert. “The overall idea of MusicTech is to offer campers a complete submersion into what it takes to play in a working band. In today’s connected world the need for large record deals and distribution is greatly minimized with social networks and readily available, inexpensive recording equipment such as the Zoom H2″, says Progressive Music Center’s Billy Cuthrell.
Started in 1994 as way to showcase students, Progressive Music Center’s camp has grown year after year and produced a year around program called Rock Academy where students rehearse weekly in Progressive’s studios with a staff member that coaches the bands and prepares them for live shows around the NC area.

It’s not too late to register and save for our summer camps, and we still have spots open for ALL camp sessions in our Raleigh and Wake Forest studios! We know it’s a tough economy, so we’re also cutting the 50% deposit to only 20% on all camp sessions through May 1st! 


Registration for the GREATEST summer camp experience of your life opened in February! Have you registered and saved $50 yet? Progressive Music Center’s Original School of Rock Camp 2009 returns with an updated and innovative approach to our ever popular camps.

For summer 2009 we will still have our “campers” rehearse and perform a weekly concert, but on top of that we will combine music and technology to offer MusicTech. We’ll have sessions on recording, promoting your music, the latest in music tech gear and how to use it in your band’s gigs and rehearsals and we’re adding more to the schedule everyday. These will be hands-on sessions where you do the work and by weeks end you can take your work with you (we’ll record your rehearsals and gig).

We are also introducing our first ever double week session. We’ll have the same group of musicians for 10 days instead of the normal one week period, and then wrap it up with a huge concert the last day of the camp (see below for a listing of all camp dates and concerts). There’s also an early bird registration offer (only $350 for registration payments received before March 31st!) and if the Gods of Construction are on our side, we may be in our new Raleigh, NC location just in time for the first MusicTech session.

Rock Academy

We are pleased to announce Rock Academy – the updated version of our popular Student Band Jam program where we place students into bands for rehearsals and performances. Rock Academy will offer everyone the opportunity to play in a band, no matter if you take lessons with Progressive or with someone else. (Shame on you for not taking your lessons with Progressive, but that’s another post:)

It’s simple to get started. Here’s the scoop:

  • Introductory price is only $10.00 per rocker.
  • Rehearsals are weekly for one hour
  • Space is limited
  • Minimum of 3 members per band are needed to schedule a rehearsal
  • No Make-Ups are offered for any reason
